Performance -- Front-Load vs Top-Load

Front-load is better.  We had been using top-load all these years and now we knew why those who use front-load swears by it.  The clothing comes out much much less wrinkled.

Performance -- Dryer for extra straightening effect.

When you combine it with a dryer, the result is even better.  This is because the heat from dyer straightens the clothes further.

Is it not good enough to wear?



Ok, this white school shirt may not look that good on photo, but this is so much better than what's coming from a top-load (I did take a picture but just couldn't find it).  And trust me, it is good enough to wear to school already.  After you put it on, 5 minutes later, they all look like this right?

The "Perfect Laundry Process"

Washer --> Dryer -->  EZ Bella for assistance to put them on hangars --> Wardrobe

There!  If you still don't think it is awesome, just think about it:


No more laundry racks of any kind standing around.

No more clothing out to dry.

No more messy laundry area.

Your laundry is out for no more than 15 minutes while you are putting them on hangers.

Is it not the perfect system?

Perfect System Ruined

"You need to iron my shirt, it's a little crumpled.  I put it in the laundry basket."

"Ok.  But why are the rest of the clothes here?"

"Well, since you are ironing, might as well do it all."

What??!!

She couldn't stand it that I was out of the picture with this Perfect Laundry Process, she had to create some excuses to make me do work.

The process is perfect.  It's just ruined by pure, unadulterated jealousy.

Cooker Hood -- What is the right height?

I mulled over this before the installation.  Came the time to install, we just went along with what our carpenter suggested. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! After a month in the kitchen, I have hit it at no less than five times and from all sides.  I should now be able to answer this with some authority: how should the hood be positioned?  Here's the definitive guide. It's all about the height. First, there is a constraint you have to work with: the maximum distance between hob and hood. For my Fujioh hood, the separation distance should be within 800mm. Second, determine the height of the hob.  It should be around 800mm to 900mm, depending on your height and what you are comfortable with. The height of floor to hob in my case is 900mm and hob to hood is another 750mm making it a total height of 1650mm or 1.65m.  I am 1.75m tall and the hood is just at my eye level. My HDB 4 Room, 4A Floor Plan

To start things off, this is the floor plan. This development is 30 years old.  However, it had just been upgraded with new lifts.  First of all, we liked the location:  it is an area we knew well, and it is just a short distance away to MRT, shops, Community Centre and parks and yet shielded from the main road by one other block.  Secondly, we loved the size.  The older flats had a slightly larger area and higher ceiling.  The Living room is really spacious with a squarish layout that we like.  The two bedrooms for our children are of good size:  enough room for a full size wardrobe, bed and writing desk. We are less enthusiastic about the toilets.  They are really really small.  Kitchen is just about right while the Master bedroom size is ok, we didn't like it that the door is facing the Kitchen. The house is quite well maintained.  The walls and cabinets are in quite a good condition.  I am quite sure we will want to keep the flooring.  Other things though will have to

Response time of HDB's general enquiry...you will be surprised!

There is this additional pipe in the toilet which no one had a clue what it was for.  Can we get rid of it? Who else better to ask than HDB?  I couldn't find a contact point for renovation questions so I tried the general email contact:  hdb@mailbox.hdb.gov.sg . I don't think I have had much good experience with emailing to general enquiry of any organisation to talk about.  In this case, I too, have forgotten about it as soon as I sent it. The email was sent on a Friday night at almost 10pm.  The following Tuesday morning, I got a call at 9am from Don, a representative from HDB saying he would be in my unit at 11am to have a look. Don was there at 11am.  After surveying, he said it is part of sewage pipe system from older design.  Only a some units in certain floors have it and I was one of the lucky ones.  And no, it cannot be dismantled. One working day, one officer on site, question answered, doubt cleared.  I am left with the astonishment of the speed of turn
